Media conglomerate
Meia conglomerate, media group, or media institution is a company that owns numerous companies involved in mass media enterprises, such as television, radio, publishing, motion pictures, theme parks, or the Internet.

Rules for the media regulation. Regulation of media is complicated to control. Many rules are about protecting the audience from harm and being offended. Regulations have to try and balance protecting the people and offering them choice at the same time. Technology has made regulation of media even more difficult. Eg. through pircary, or streanming on youtube. There are films with age restrictions however, people under the speficied age can still end up watching the film due to the technological developments such as streaming options where their age is not required. Tedhnology has made it easier for people to share media products.
Powerful companies can avoid regulations (large conlomerates).

Powerful companies such as Newscorp which is owned by Rupert Murdock, has made regulation harder. They were involved in phone tapping scandal. As a reuslt of their power and influence withing the political arena it was hard for them to be made accountable for their actions.

Gauntlett
Audiences get a sense of identoity as a result of the media they consume such as from films or magasines. For example, in youtube vlogs people can get a sense of identity such as wat they can learn about their own identity from the product they are consuming.
In the past, representations were very simple and straightforward whereas in newer media products representations are much more diverse, especially in terms of gender and gender domains. For example, female representations can lead to audiences (women) learning new things about their gender and ways in which they should behave. For example in the past representaitons of women would include `getting married and being dependent on the husband` however in the newer media products include more representations such as `financially independent females with a more masculine identity` showing the diverse in gender representations in postmodern times.

Media conglomerates seek ways in which to become more powerful maximise their profits for example via horizontal or vertical integrations.
Sometimes big companies tend to produce media prodicts which similar stories of the original ones in order to secure profit.

Heart and Capital are owned by the same company, therefore the music they stream is the same.
Minecraft- when it under the ownership ofd Mojang the productions were diverse whereas the new owner- microsoft prefers to maximise profit in a secure way therefore without any diversity in new products being produced.

Companies want to minimise risk and maximise profit. This can be done by making sure that your company should be vertically or horizontally integrated.
1. Horizontal- Companies buy companies which are challenging to them in order to beocme more powerful.
Vertical- For example, a production company buying out a distribution company.

2. Diversifying into media and working across a number of different platforms.

3. Taking advantage of what is successfull, therefore they start making more and more of the same products. For example fast and furious 1,2,3,4,5,6,7.

4. Controlled released schedule
For example, releasing a film around the world at once, or releasing a product along stages, not at once.

Relate to Disney`s company- The Jungle Book and the products they offer such as theme parks.
